When Roxy first read about the inspiration behind the Life is a Mixtape collection, she immediately thought of Nina Simone. While growing up, Nina’s music was on heavy rotation in Roxy’s home, ingraining her intense, soulful vocals into the memories of her childhood. For Roxy, Nina’s life journey was at once full of intrigue, amazement and struggle. Although Nina’s work in the 60’s is Roxy’s favorite part of her musical catalogue, Roxy was not focused on any one particular song in developing her scarf design concept. Instead, she aimed to develop a portrait of Nina that would at once portray both the duality in her music and colorful, eye catching African-inspired design elements. Roxy hopes to have done Nina justice (we think she nailed it!) and that you love Nina as much as she does.
